COOKING WITH DRIED PLUMS

Dried plums are a particularly good source of fiber and other nutrients important for good digestive health. Here's why:
  • Dried plums are beneficial to digestive health because they contain fiber. They contain about 3g of fiber per serving (4-5 dried plums). The fiber in dried plums is made up of approximately 50% insoluble and 50% soluble fiber, both of which are crucial for a healthy digestive system. Insoluble fiber remains intact in the digestive system, so it helps to move food through the system. Soluble fiber mixes with water to become viscous (slow-moving); this aids in the absorption of nutrients during digestion. Click here for more information on fiber in our "10 Steps You Can Take to Build and Maintain Digestive Health" page.
  • Dried plums are also high in plant substances called polyphenols. Some polyphenols are antioxidants that protect DNA against damage, decrease inflammation and may prevent cancer.
